Other Tree Resources

There are many wonderful resources to use to learn more about trees in Minnesota and around the world. Here are a few we recommend:

  • The University of Minnesota Extension Service Trees, Shrubs, and Vines site offers tons of great information about plant identification, management, and diseases.
  • The University of Minnesota's Urban Forestry Outreach, Research & Extension Nursery site offers more in depth information about local trees, forestry, and urban forestry.
  • The United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resource Conservation Service PLANTS Database has information about plants found throughout the country.
  • The United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service Northeastern Area site offers a handbook for over 200 species of trees found in our area of the United States.
  • The Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary Plant List has very thorough entries for many tree species found in the Upper Midwest and beyond, along with wonderful photographs. EBWG also has a particularly helpful guide to telling different types of oaks apart.
  • The Missouri Botanical Garden Plant Search is a great source of information about landscape attributes of trees and other plant.s
